ALPART
The production facility
at Alpart was commissioned in 1969. The production capacity totals 1.65 mln
tonnes of alumina and 4 mln tonnes of bauxite per year. RUSAL currently owns
65% of Alpart. The remaining 35% is owned by Norsk Hydro.
Port Kaiser services Alpart for the movement of bulk materials, primarily
alumina, fuel oil and caustic. A private 15 km rail line links the plant to the
port.

Alpart Alumina Refinery is situated
close to Mandeville, a town on the island of Jamaica, in the West Indies. One
of the basic sectors of the Jamaican economy is bauxite mining, production and
export of alumina. Bauxites used to produce alumina are mined at Alpart’s
mines.
Jamaica, with a population of
2.6 mln. people is a Caribbean island in the West Indies, covering an area of
11,500 square kilometres. A basic sector of the Jamaican economy includes
bauxite mining, production and export of alumina.

Technology
The refinery uses the high temperature tube digestion technology, the Bayer
process, to produce alumina.
