The BGCI ecological activities go back to the beginning of its operations in April 2006.  Initially, there were environmental impact studies, environmental management plans and closure and decommissioning plans for the deposits worked by the BCGI.  These submissions were approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and resulted in the BCGI receiving a 5-year renewable environmental permit for its operations at the following deposits: Bissaruni left and right banks; West deposit; Block #5 Northeast; сurrently active 22 Kurubuka deposit.

Conditional to environmental permits are compliance schedules which detail the activities to be undertaken by the BCGI depending on the issuance of the licenses.
