Sustainable development
In 2009 RUSAL completed a large-scale project to modernise the Krasnoyarsk smelter. The renovation resulted in in its production efficiency increasing considerably and a reduction in its emissions. find out more


ALSCON, one of RUSAL’s African assets, includes an aluminium smelter, a gas-fired power station and a port on the Imo River, Nigeria.

  • RUSAL acquired a controlling stake in ALSCON in 2007. RUSAL owns 85% of ALSCON with the rest of the shares belonging to the government of Nigeria.
  • ALSCON includes an aluminium smelter with an annual capacity of 96 thousand tonnes, a port on the Imo River and a gas-fired power station
  • ALSCON was launched in 1997 and then ceased operations in 2000. Following the acquisition of the controlling stake in ALSCON, RUSAL modernized the facility and re-started it in 2008.

In 2007, RUSAL launched an extensive modernization programme at ALSCON to boost its production efficiency and streamline logistics. The project embraced the modernization of the power station and the port on the Imo River as well as enhancement of the technological processes management system.
