RUSAL and Moskabelmet certify an aluminium cable for buildings and housing

Moscow, 3 September 2021 – RUSAL (SEHK: 486, Moscow Exchange: RUAL), a leading global aluminium producer, and The Group of Companies Moskabelmet, one of the leaders of the Russian market of cabling and wiring products, have successfully certified a cable with aluminium alloy conductors aligning with the fire resistance requirements.‬‬

The AsPPGng(A)-FRHF cable was designed as an analogue of the existing PPGng(A)-HF and PPGng(A) -FRHF cables with copper conductors. They are used in the construction of business centres, high-rise buildings, numerous shopping centres. According to experts, the market volume of such cables is about 3-6 thousand tons per year. Moreover, the market is growing year by year. Taking into account the successfully passed tests, it became possible to offer the market an innovative and safe analogue of aluminium alloy, which, with the same quality characteristics and efficiency, is more cost-effective and can replace cables made of traditional materials.

Certification tests of the AsPPGng(A)-FRHF cable against the requirements of firstly, GOST 31996 “Power cables with plastic insulation for rated voltages of 0,66; 1 and 3 kV. General specifications." and secondly, GOST 31565 “Cable products. Requirements of fire safety” were completed in August. In addition to fire resistance tests, the cable was tested for its resistance to external factors (cold ban test, exposure to high and low temperatures, high humidity, etc.), for fire safety (bunched wiring cable flame retardence test, determination of cable smoke generation); physical and mechanical properties (tensile strength before and after aging, elongation, punching shear, twisting, etc.), and electrical parameters (electrical resistance of insulation and conductive core, voltage resistance, etc.).

As a result, the AsPPGng(A)-FRHF has been successfully tested. Good results were obtained displaying a smaller decrease in light transmission and flame retardance when the wires were bunched together. The samples were tested according to the method specified in GOST IEC 60331-21 "Tests for electric and optical fibre cables under fire conditions" – that is, at a temperature of 750 ° C, with a constant control of the parameters and exposure time.

“If positive trends continue in the construction market, the demand for cable and wire products will also grow. Thanks to the development of new types of products and the cooperation of Russian manufacturers, companies that are interested in increasing efficiency and competitiveness now have a real choice. We are confident that cables made of aluminium alloys, which have been used all over the world for many years, will take their niche in the Russian and CIS markets in the medium term”, noted Roman Andryushin, Deputy General Director of RUSAL for Sales in Russia, CIS and China.

“We have done a great job, which not only brings the Russian cable and wire products market closer to world standards, but will also increase competition in the construction industry. This is prerequisite for progress and an incentive for manufacturers and consumers to continue investing in R&D andin the creation and implementation of modern, effective, safe products”, said Pavel Moryakov, General Director of Moskabelmet Group of Companies
In 2021, thanks to RUSAL's pricing policy and the conclusion of long-term contracts with suppliers with a fixed premium for processing in the domestic market, domestic high-tech aluminium products, previously not produced in the country and imported from abroad, began to be more heavily marketedsuch as pipes, lighting poles, noise screens, helicopter playgrounds and much more.
