RUSAL forms a Public Expert Council on Sustainable Development

Moscow, December 2, 2022 - RUSAL, a leading global aluminium producer, created the Public Expert Council on Sustainable Development and held its first meeting.

The Council will be engaged in increasing the effectiveness of interaction with citizens, industry and cross-sector associations, regional authorities and local governments, scientific and public organizations in the field of environmental protection, climate change, social support and business ethics.

The Council is intended to facilitate the exchange of views between stakeholders on the issues of RUSAL's sustainable development strategy, the implementation of national projects in the field of environmental protection, as well as the socio-economic development of the Company's areas of responsibility. The goal is to improve the quality of RUSAL's environmental, social and corporate governance based on open discussions with independent experts and community members.

The Council includes environmental experts, representatives of federal and regional authorities, the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, civil activists from Krasnoyarsk, Achinsk, Irkutsk, Bratsk, Novokuznetsk, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg and Moscow.

The co-chairs of the Public Expert Council are Irina Bakhtina, Chief Sustainability Officer of RUSAL, Stepan Kalmykov, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry at Moscow State University, Doctor of Chemistry, Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Elena Feoktistova, Managing Director for Corporate Responsibility, Sustainable Development and Social Entrepreneurship at the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

At its first meeting, held in Krasnoyarsk on November 30, the Council discussed the key documents of RUSAL's strategic planning and corporate governance in the field of sustainable development adopted in 2022, including RUSAL's new environmental policy.

“The idea of creating a Public Expert Council was suggested to us by activists at public hearings on the KrAZ environmental restructuring project in April this year. Such a working, advisory body should fit perfectly into the corporate governance system. The Council will expand the opportunities for the exchange of views between the company's management, the relevant committee of the Board of Directors and representatives of the active public and the expert community at the federal, regional and local levels,” said Irina Bakhtina, Chief Sustainability Officer of RUSAL.
