UC RUSAL announces senior management appointments in its Aluminium division

Moscow, 01 September 2016 – UC RUSAL (SEHK: 486; Euronext: RUSAL/RUAL; Moscow Exchange: RUAL/RUALR), a leading global aluminium producer, announces senior staff appointments within the Company’s Aluminium Division. 

Oleg Buts has been appointed as Managing Director of Irkutsk Aluminium Smelter (IrkAZ). Prior to the appointment, Mr Buts worked as the Director of Department for Production System Training at Production development Directorate of UC RUSAL. He will replace Evgeny Kuriyanov, who has been appointed as Managing Director of Krasnoyarsk Aluminium Smelter (KrAZ).

Both managers started their careers at blue-collar positions at RUSAL plants where they passed through all the professional growth stages inside the company, gaining a great understanding of the production and plants specifics. Being part of ‘RUSAL Personnel Reserve’ programme, both employees have developed their management role potentials, and were soon promoted to executive positions.

In their new roles, Oleg Buts and Evgeny Kuriyanov’s responsibilities will include increasing the share of value-added products (VAP) and the improvement of its quality, continuing further development of the RUSAL Business System, as well as implementing the technologies used to minimize the production impact on the environment.

Biographies

In 2004, Evgeny Kuriyanov graduated with honours from Irkutsk State Technical University where he specialized in Nonferrous Metallurgy. In 2011 he obtained an MBA degree from the Higher Business School at Moscow State University. Starting his career in 1999, Mr Kuriyanov worked at BrAZ as a molten salts’ pot operator. Between 2004 – 2015, he worked at Krasnoyarsk Aluminium Smelter (KrAZ) in various positions ranging from a pot operator to a Director for Reduction Process at KrAZ before being appointed as Managing Director of Irkutsk Aluminium Smelter (IrkAZ) in 2015.

In 2001, Oleg Buts graduated from Krasnoyarsk State Technical University where he specialized in Casthouse Equipment and Technologies. In 2003-2004, Mr Buts advanced his skills in Business Management by completing a training course in Production Systems at the Higher Business School at Moscow State University. Mr Buts started his career in 2001 as a non-ferrous casting operator at Krasnoyarsk Aluminium Smeelter (KrAZ). Within four years, he advanced through the Company from a regular employee to a senior manager of the casthouse. In 2006 he became head of the casthouse business unit at the Sayanogorsk Aluminium Smelter (SAZ) where he managed the implementation of the methods and approaches of the production system at all six plants of Sayanogorsk industrial site, including SAZ, Khakas Aluminium Smelter (KhAZ) and SAYANAL.  Following this, in 2011 Mr Buts was appointed as Director of Department for Production System Training at Production development Directorate of UC RUSAL.
