Matthias Warnig has significant public company experience having served on the Board of several international companies with particular focus on development and implementation of corporate governance strategies. He has an excellent knowledge of Russian and international business and an in-depth understanding of financial, energy and commodity industries. As a Managing Director (CEO) of Nord Stream AG since 2006 Matthias Warnig leads Europe’s largest infrastructure project – the construction of the Nord Stream pipeline.

The nomination of Matthias Warnig as an independent non-executive director, is further step in RUSAL’s stated aim of promoting corporate governance excellence. RUSAL is planning to increase the number of independent non-executive directors in the Board up to one third in accordance with the new rules of HKSE.

Biography
Matthias Warnig has been Managing Director of Nord Stream AG (Switzerland) since 2006.

In 1990-2006 he was involved with the financial activities of Dresdner Bank Group in Frankfurt am Main, St. Petersburg and Moscow (he held the positions of President, Chairman of the Board and Chief Coordinator of Dresdner Bank Group AG in the Russian Federation).

In 1981 he graduated from the Bruno Leuschner Higher School of Economics, where he specialized in National Economics (qualified economist). In 1993-1995 he studied at Dresdner Bank AG in Bad Homburg (Germany) and in London (UK) and was awarded a degree in Credit and Risk Management.

Warnig has been a Chairman of the Board of Directors of Transneft, member of VTB Bank Supervisory Board, member of Bank Rossiya Board of Directors, member of Rosneft Board of Directors.
