RUSAL seals landmark carbon credit deal as part of the Sakhalin Experiment
Moscow, 17 June 2025 – RUSAL, one of the world's largest aluminium producers, has announced the largest carbon credit deal to date on the Russian market. The deal was executed for the benefit of a participant in the Sakhalin Experiment for offsetting greenhouse gas emissions.
The carbon credits involved in the deal were issued in the national Carbon Units Registry as a result of RUSAL’s forest climate initiative. This project, which holds the official status of a "Partner of National Projects," focuses on aerial forest fire surveillance in Krasnoyarsk Region.
The carbon credit sale enables the buyer to achieve environmental compliance in the Sakhalin Experiment. The deal also contributes to the shaping of a sustainable carbon credit market in Russia, demonstrates that the market-based decarbonisation tools really work and further strengthens RUSAL’s role in ecosystem conservation, advancing Russia's climate goals.
